SunSmart Little Roses: Sun Safety for Young Children
Young skin needs extra protection. Simple SunSmart habits keep children safe while they play outdoors.

Outdoor play is essential for young children, and so is protecting their delicate skin. In Australia's strong sun, building SunSmart habits early keeps children safe while they explore and play.
Why Young Skin Needs Extra Care
Children's skin is more sensitive than adults', and sun exposure in early childhood adds up over a lifetime. Good habits formed now protect health for years to come.
The SunSmart Basics
The simplest protection combines a few reliable steps whenever UV levels are high:
- Slip on clothing that covers the shoulders
- Slop on broad-spectrum sunscreen
- Slap on a broad-brimmed hat
- Seek shade during outdoor play
- Slide on sunglasses where practical
Timing and Shade
UV levels are usually strongest in the middle of the day. Planning active outdoor play for earlier or later in the day, along with plenty of shade, reduces exposure while still enjoying the outdoors.
Making It a Habit
Children learn sun safety best when it is simply part of the routine. Applying sunscreen before outdoor play and popping on a hat every time helps the habit stick, at care and at home.
At Little Roses
We follow SunSmart practices throughout the warmer months, providing shade, hats and sunscreen routines so children can enjoy the outdoors safely every day.
